Images of commuter traffic are captured on video tape. The sounds produced by the traffic are fed into a computer patch which filters the sounds’ pitches into tables, upon which melodic synthesizer lines are played. The separation and translation of the audio channel suggests the abstraction of the image.

The story of a man surviving adversity, only to be driven mad by the insistence of the story teller that he must do so. The naration is funneled through a filter which rearranges and distorts the video signal. The distortions in the video signal are analyzed to create noise to overlay and squelch the narration.

Signal Investigation is an interactive and semi-autonomous audio/visual installation which borrows its script from an episode of the popular television drama CSI. As opposed to a ’re-make’ or ’re-edit’ of the originally aired program, Signal Investigation is an exercise in the reconfiguration of many of the elements composing a television broadcast.
